Camillus apartment building fire
CAMILLUS, NY (WSYR-TV) - A fire at a Camillus apartment complex left eight families without a home on Sunday night.
It started at about 8:00 p.m. on Chicopee Mews.
Firefighters said the fire started on the first floor before spreading to the second floor and attic.
Everyone got out of the building safely.
Four of the eight apartment units were damaged.
“There is a firewall right down the center of the structure. That actually helped stop the fire spreading to the second half of the building,” said Camillus Fire Chief Doug Groesbeck.
The Red Cross is assisting the eight families displaced by the fire.
Investigators say the building is not safe and will need major repairs.
The cause is under investigation.
