SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV) - After beating cancer, former Syracuse University football player Rob Long dropped the puck at Saturday night’s Crunch hockey game.
Long underwent brain surgery in December, 2010. He has since fully recovered and is cancer free.
He told NewsChannel 9 that the support here in Central New York had a lot to do with it.
"It was really awe-inspiring when everything first happened to me. I got so many letters and an outpouring of support from everybody and it was really special to see just how many people cared and took the time to write something. So, it meant a lot to me,” said Long.
Long said he is still pursuing his dream of playing in the NFL.
Long is 2nd all-time at SU in career punting yards and punting average.
