Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Mother Nature has taken a bite out of a candy business on Syracuse’s Northside. The Speach Family Candy Shoppe has been cleaning up for three weeks after the roof was severely damaged from ice and rain.

The store says the weather caused at least $60,000 worth of damage inside.

“It’s really crazy for us because right after Christmas we get ready for Valentines Day,” said Michael Speach Jr. “It's really thrown us for quite a loop.”

The store has been closed for the last three weeks and chocolate production in the store has been at a standstill.

The phone lines were also wiped out by the water, so the store could only take orders online.

They hope to have their machines back on soon so they can run continuously through Valentines Day to keep up with demand.

Speach Jr. said, “It's a huge holiday for us.  Because it falls in the middle of the week, the weekend before and the weekend after will be busy.”

The store will be even busier for the workers as they try to make up for lost time.

The shop is hoping to be open to customers by Wednesday. You can still place orders online, and on the phone.
