Auburn (WSYR-TV) – A Cayuga County man who was convicted in August on sex abuse charges involving a 3-year-old child will spend at least five decades in prison.

Robert Knapp was sentenced to 57 years in state prison and will not be eligible for parole until he has spent nearly 43 years behind bars.

Knapp admitted in a taped interview that he sexually abused the child on a weekly basis for nearly two months.

The Cayuga County District Attorney’s office says he will not be eligible for parole until he is 80 years old.

Upon being sentenced, the DA’s office said Knapp flew into a rage, hurling obscenities and attacking deputies.

The District Attorney’s office has maintained that Knapp had other victims, but the man could not be tried regarding their cases.
