Celebrated Navy SEAL, author one of two men gunned down at shooting range
Syracuse (WSYR-TV/CNN) - A shooting at a remote gun range in Texas has killed two men, one of them a former Navy SEAL and the author of “American Sniper.”
The man authorities believe is responsible is in custody, but they say they are still trying to figure out what happened.
Navy SEAL Chris Kyle is famous for his record number of kills as a sniper. The other man was veteran Chad Littlefield.
The two were shot at a gun range on the Rough Creek Lodge and Resort in Glen Rose, Texas.
Investigators say a hunting guide found their bodies.
Police arrested Eddie Ray Routh shortly after the shootings. They say Routh took Kyle’s pick-up truck and drove to his sister’s home. According to police, Routh’s sister called the authorities after he admitted to the shootings.
They arrested Routh after a short chase.
He was charged with murder and detained on $3 million bond.
Routh served in the Marine Corps for four years. He was unemployed at the time of the shootings.
Sheriff Tommy Bryant said that Kyle, who started a non-profit to help veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, may have been helping Routh when he was killed.
