Central Square (WSYR-TV) -- Simply donating money to help Sandy relief efforts wasn’t enough for Jeff Lawyer of Central Square. He knew his friends and family in New Jersey were suffering, spending cold nights with no heat, dealing with flooding and power outages.

That’s when Lawyer took matters into his own hands and traveled into the heart of the damage. He says he’s seen hurricanes before, but this is the worst he’s ever seen.

“Oh yeah, it’s going to be a long time before some of this is straightened out. I mean you know there will be people that are down on the shore that their houses, they’ll never get them back, or if they do they’re starting from ground up,” Lawyer said.

Lawyer’s wife says it’s not his first effort to help. Back in the 90s, during an ice storm, Lawyer brought a generator to complete strangers.
