Oswego (WSYR-TV) - A poignant ceremony was held at the SUNY Oswego campus on Tuesday for nearly 100 soldiers bound for Afghanistan.

Members of the 444th will spend the next year in one of the most dangerous places in the world. Those soldiers are looking for one thing from their friends and family at home – support.

US soldiers adhere to a creed – an oath to fight, protect, and guard the American way of life.

Like most deployment ceremonies, Tuesday's event included all of the things soldiers fight and toil to protect - their families and their children.

The 444th is an engineering company, which means the troops will be building and clearing roads when they arrive in Afghanistan.
