Liverpool (WSYR-TV) -- The Onondaga Historical Association is unveiling its plans to re-purpose the current Saint Marie Among the Iroquois.

The site will be transformed into a Haudenosaunee heritage center. The hope is to create an educational center that focuses on the group’s values and traditions.

"So much of our culture, our way of life has been influenced by the Haudenosaunee, and there really was no place where the Haudenosaunee history, from their oral history tradition was told. So it fills a void in the history stories that we tell here in Onondaga County,” said Executive Director of the Onondaga Historical Association Gregg Tripoli.

We’re told they expect to spend the rest of the year to plan the project before any changes begin to happen.
