Coventry (WSYR-TV) – Two Chenango County men are facing charges for stealing guns, one of which they allegedly tried to sell to an undercover officer.
During the investigation Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputies say they found the men had heroin residue and needles.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Eric Nelson of Afton and Rory Tanner of Coventry stole an AR-15 and a semi-automatic shotgun from a residence in the town of Bainbridge.
They sold the AR-15 to another person and then attempted to sell the shotgun to an officer, the sheriff's office said.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, they also solved several other burglaries as a result of their investigation and more charges may be pending.
Nelson was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, burglary in the third degree, criminal possession of stolen property, criminal possession of a controlled substance, and criminally possessing a hypodermic instrument.
Tanner was charged with burglary in the third degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, and criminally possessing a hypodermic instrument.
Nelson is being held at the Chenango County jail in lieu of $3,000 cash bail. Tanner is being held on $5,000 bail.
