Child's death at NY's Ft. Drum being investigated

FORT DRUM, N.Y. (AP) - A child's death at Fort Drum in northern New York is being investigated by military and civilian authorities.

Officials tell local media outlets that the child died Monday in family housing on the sprawling military post, home to the Army's 10th Mountain Division.

Military officials aren't releasing any other details about the child's death. The military investigation is being handled by the Army Criminal Investigation Command, which probes all deaths on Army installations.

Officials with the Jefferson County Department of Social Services tell the Watertown Daily Times that some of the agency's staff members have been assigned to assist military law enforcement in the probe.
