Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Syracuse lawmakers on Monday discussed the details of an agreement between the city and Syracuse University that could pave the way for millions of dollars to flow from the Hill to City Hall.
Common Council members considered a plan in which SU would pay the city $500,000 a year for the next five years. It was part of an agreement negotiated by the Miner administration and it covers basic services the city handles for the school.
“The university recognizes that we have financial issues that, as a not-for-profit, SU has come forward and offered $500,000 to plow streets, pay our police officers, help with fire protection, etcetera,” said Director of Administration Bill Ryan.
Some councilors expressed concern over what Ryan called nuances with the agreement. The final payment from SU to the city would total $2.5 million.
