Cicero (WSYR-TV) -- A local veteran police officer, recently diagnosed with stage four cancer, won’t be fighting the disease alone. Fellow officers, firefighters and community leaders are coming together to raise money, and hope.
Cicero Police Officer Wayne Galuz was diagnosed with Esophageal cancer on January 10.
Fellow officer Micahel Aregano says the cancer has spread to his liver and surgery is not an option at this point.
An all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast will be held at Cicero Fire Station #1 -- on the corner of Route 31 & Route 11 -- this Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to noon. The breakfast costs $7.50 for adults, $6.50 for seniors and $5 for kids. Kids under 6 eat free.
“We wanted to do something, and Chief John brought up the idea of taking one of our breakfasts and making it larger,” said Mark Bedigian with the Cicero Volunteer Fire Department.
“My hope is that we can raise some funds for Wayne, he's traveling, going out to Buffalo to get more information on the disease he's found himself with,” said Jim Meyers with the Cicero Police Department.
Additional fundraisers are planned to help Galutz focus on getting better.
Friends, family and the Cicero community are ready to provide Officer Galutz with some much needed backup.
On March 10, at 1 p.m., a big benefit will be held at Wysocki’s Lake Park Manor on Lakeshore Road with food, music, door prizes and much more. A $15 donation at the door is recommended. Volunteers and donations are welcome.
