Concussion safety in Pop Warner is focus of sports safety clinic for coaches
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - More than 300 Pop Warner football and cheerleading coaches from Central New York will be part of a mandatory sports safety clinic Wednesday night.
The coaches and coordinators will hear from two representatives from Upstate Medical University about concussions.
Dr. Brian Rieger and athletic trainer Ryan Connolly will discuss the growing concerns over the sports injury and the importance of awareness for everyone involved.
They will also discuss the issue of whether or not a child can return to the playing field.
About 4,000 children between the ages of 5 and 15 participate in Pop Warner football and cheerleading in Central New York.
The clinic starts at 6 p.m. at Henninger High School.
