Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – The condition of a North Syracuse teenager who was critically injured in an accident in the town of Geddes on Thursday has been upgraded.

Upstate University Hospital admitted 17-year-old Alex Wershinski in critical condition on Thursday. The hospital now says Wershinski is in serious condition.

Wershinski was helping a friend adjust the hood of his car along Route 695 in Geddes when the car was rear-ended. Both Wershinski and his friend – 21-year-old Brian White of Red Creek – were thrown approximately 20 feet along the side of the road.

White was also injured in the accident, but he was treated and released.

81-year-old Dorothy McGivern of Camillus was ticketed after Sheriff’s Investigators said she struck the car while driving on the shoulder of the road.
