Ithaca (WSYR-TV) – A jury in Tompkins County
has reached a partial verdict, convicting a man who shot an Ithaca Police officer on a number of charges, but refraining from convicting him of attempted murder.
Jamel Booker was convicted on multiple charges stemming from an October 2012 incident in which he shot officer Anthony Augustine
, including aggravated assault on a police officer and first degree assault.
The jury failed to reach a verdict on the most serious charge, however – attempted murder.
Tompkins County District Attorney Gwen Wilkenson says she believes they launched a good case.
They say they are prepared to try Booker again on the attempted murder charge.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on June 28.
