RUSSIA, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a man committed suicide by driving a car into a construction vehicle after setting fire to his Herkimer County home and barn.

State police say Thursday that the man set the structures on fire late Wednesday night before driving his car into a front loader parked on his property in the rural Herkimer County town of Russia, on the Adirondack Park's southwest corner 55 miles northeast of Syracuse.

Troopers say the man was killed in the crash.

Authorities say the man committed suicide after having an argument with his wife earlier in the evening. His name hasn't been released. His wife wasn't injured.

Several fire departments battled the blaze and remained at the scene into Thursday morning.
