Cops: K-9 unit helped nab burglar in Lyncourt who was hiding inside a mausoleum
Lyncourt (WSYR-TV) – The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office is crediting its K-9 deputies for nabbing a burglar in Lyncourt on Wednesday morning after he fled into a nearby cemetery and hid within a mausoleum.
The Sheriff’s Office responded to a complaint at a Sunoco Convenience Store on Court Street around 12:30 a.m. and found that a suspect had shattered a glass door with a cement block.
With the help of K-9 “Inga,” Deputy Amy Murphy tracked the suspect into Woodlawn Cemetery.
In less than two hours, Murphy and Inga found 20-year-old Austin Cavender hiding within a mausoleum.
Cavender is charged with burglary in the third degree and criminal mischief in the third degree – both felonies – as well as petit larceny.
The Onondaga man was taken to the Justice Center.
The Sheriff’s Office says Cavender stole tobacco products from the Sunoco station.
