Warners (WSYR-TV) – State Police arrested a Utica man who they say drank a bottle of stolen vodka on the Thruway and then assaulted a rest-stop gas-station attendant with a hammer early Monday morning.
According to police, Denis Alibegic, 22, of 1013 Morris St., Utica, fueled his car at a Warners rest stop and then attacked the attendant with a hammer. The attendant fought back, however, disarming Alibegic before calling 911.
A State Police Thruway patrol arrested Alibegic.
Their investigation discovered that Alibegic had stolen the liquor bottle from a Utica business and then drank it while he drove along the Thruway.
Alibegic was charged with driving while intoxicated, robbery in the first degree, assault in the second degree, and criminal possession of a weapon.
He was arraigned in the town of Van Buren and taken to the Onondaga County Justice Center in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond. He is scheduled to return to court on June 4.
