Cornell professor killed in crash; police ask for your help

State Police are asking anyone with information about last Friday’s deadly car accident in Dryden to give them a call. They’re hoping to find someone who may have witnessed the vehicles involved in the crash.

Martha Dewery, 55, a Cornell Professor, was heading southbound on Route 38, just south of the Village of Dryden, when her car collided head-on with an SUV heading northbound.

The driver of the SUV, Lisa Wapen, 48, Ithaca, was arrested and charged with a DWI.

Dryden, Tompkins Co. (WSYR-TV) - State police say a Tompkins County woman is dead after a head-on crash near her home tonight.

Troopers say 55-year-old Martha Dewey was heading southbound on Route 38, just south of the Village of Dryden, when her car collided head-on with an SUV heading northbound.

The driver of the SUV was flown to University Hospital, where she was in serious condition, according to State Police. Police did not immediately release the driver’s identity.

Initially, Tompkins County 911 had said the accident involved someone backing out of their driveway.
