Truxton (WSYR-TV) – State Police have charged a Cortland County man who they say drove drunk and caused a multi-car accident that took the life of a Manlius man trying to fix a flat tire.

According to State Police, Derek Manwarren, 21, of Truxton, was drunk while traveling on State Route 13 a little before 3 a.m. on Friday when he came upon two cars parked by the side of the road.

Police say Manwarren’s car struck one of the vehicles and then another before hitting and killing Brian Cook, 26, of Manlius.

Police charged Manwarren with driving while intoxicated and vehicular manslaughter in the second degree.

He was arraigned in Town of Preble Court and taken to Cortland County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.
