Cortland (WSYR-TV) -- Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced Wednesday that more than $60,000 in federal funding will go to the Cortland Fire Department to purchase smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to be distributed to families throughout the community.

The fire department will voluntarily inspect single family homes throughout the community and give the detectors to those in need.

The money was allocated through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) Grants Program.
