Clay (WSYR-TV) – The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office says a Costa Rica man is in the hospital in critical condition after being pulled from a town of Clay pool on Monday morning.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, 44-year-old Pablo Umana of San Jose, Costa Rica, was visiting family members when he told them he wanted to go swimming.
They asked him to wait until they could join him because they weren’t sure whether he could swim or not.
However, a short time later, they heard a splash and then ran outside to discover Umana at the bottom of the 6-foot pool area.
A neighbor named Michael Vaughn, 23, was joined by others in an effort to rescue Umana.
They gave him CPR until emergency personnel arrived to take Umana to a local hospital.
Sheriff’s Investigators were still on the scene early Monday afternoon.
