Syracuse (WSYR-TV/ABC News) – Snack company Frito-Lay is getting ready to introduce a treat with a little more pop this year when it unveils a caffeinated variety of the popular candy-coated popcorn – Cracker Jack’D Power Bites.
The Cracker Jack snack variant will be available in flavors vanilla mocha and cocoa java. They will contain approximately 70 mg of caffeine in each two-ounce package, which is the rough equivalent of a one-ounce serving of espresso.
The
Center for Science in the Public Interest has voiced multiple concerns over the new product, including the fact that Cracker Jack popcorn is generally popular with children.
Frito-Lay says the snack will be marketed to adults, not children. In addition, product information indicating that its ingredients include coffee and caffeine will be clearly noted.
Also, the iconic boy-and-dog image associated with Cracker Jacks will be rendered in black and white in order to avoid confusion.
