Crews begin demolishing old Bartel Road bridge

Brewerton (WSYR-TV) – Work crews began taking apart the old Bartel Road bridge that crosses Route 81 Wednesday morning. A new bridge was built adjacent to the old, substandard structure last year.

A crane was in place lifting the support beams onto a truck parked along a closed lane of the highway.

The State DOT says the bridge replacement project is on schedule to be completed this summer.

Much of the northern side of the bridge has been replaced and widened to handle two lanes of traffic during the construction.

The southern portion will be replaced this spring and early summer.
