Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Crouse Hospital eliminated 23 management positions – three that were vacant – and five non-management positions on Wednesday.

According to hospital representative Bob Allen, the hospital took a proactive approach, because of cuts in reimbursement rates expected over the next three to four years and its impact on the hospital.

The hospital expects to receive $11-million less in Medicare reimbursements over the next several years, said Allen.

The hospital is looking at containing costs on supplies, overtime, and other expenses, and insure the hospital can provide service in the future.
