Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – The NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series are roaring into Watkins Glen International this weekend.
While the focus will be on racing for fans, Governor Cuomo and the International Speedway Corporation are using the event to raise awareness about distracted driving.
Together, the Governor’s office and ISC have produced a PSA that will run all weekend at the event and at every remaining ISC event in the 2013 season.
Cuomo has taken a hard stance against distracted driving this summer signing into law multiple bills that increase penalties
for violators and increase its enforcement
Racing at Watkins Glen starts Saturday with the Nationwide Series Zippo 200 and continues Sunday for the Sprint Cup Cheez-It 355.
The green flag for the Cheez-It 355 is scheduled to drop at 2 p.m. and is one of only two races in the Sprint Cup schedule where drivers must turn right instead of left.
