Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- There are winter parking restrictions in effect for a number of Central New York towns and cities and plows are gearing up for the snow.

The DPW has 4,500 tons of salt for this storm. As soon as the snow starts falling, DPW trucks will be ready to roll.

“We're preparing to make sure the equipment from the last event is up and running and bringing in new salt,” explained Tom Simone with the DPW

Crews are read to work long shifts to get the roads cleared and since we could get a few inches per hour, the struggle is keep up with Mother Nature.

The DPW in Syracuse is arming as many trucks as possible with plows, including trucks that were going to be used for Christmas tree pickup.

“We’re putting blades and wings on those trucks, too, in case vehicles go down during the event,” said Simone.

The plows will focus on main roads first and then get to the secondary roads. And remember, pay attention to parking rules, especially in the city so plows can make it down your road.
