Snow buries Central New York 12-27-2012

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – With Central New York’s first significant storm living up to the forecast, Department of Public Works crews in the city of Syracuse were hard at work trying to keep up with clearing streets and roads.

The DPW hit the streets late Wednesday night trying to get ahead of the storm. Crews cleared roads as soon as the snow began falling.

"Our main objective is to try to open the road up first, then push the snow back at that point to make for better travel for the vehicles,” said DPW Deputy Commissioner Tom Simone.

Traveling through the city was a challenge on Thursday as drivers negotiated slick roads.

The DPW is asking drivers to follow parking rules and have a little patience.
