SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV) - Syracuse University was preparing for the arrival of the Dalai Lama on Sunday. His first panel discussion starts at 9 a.m. at the Shine Student Center on campus.
To help spread the Dalai Lama's message of "Universal Responsibility," the panel discussions at Syracuse University will stream live online.
“I think the biggest thing is getting people involved and getting everybody involved in the process and engaging them in a public dialogue about peace,” said Mark Emory, media representative for World Harmony Productions.
That dialogue across the SU campus has already begun. Much of the student body is preparing for an exciting few days.
“Almost every single person I know is going. I literally only know two people who aren't,” said SU Freshman Alexa Voss.
Syracuse University staff has experience working with high-profile guests like Vice President Joe Biden and former President Bill Clinton.
“We have enhanced security for Dalai Lama. There will be some metal detecting going on. We've brought in a company - we out sourced a little bit- to help us with that. There will be perimeters built around the gates so it's going to take a lot longer to get in,” said Carrier Dome Managing Director Pete Sala.
Parking for the concert on Tuesday will be $10 at Skytop and Manley field house, with shuttles to the Carrier Dome. Gates open at 5 p.m. SU staff encourage people to arrive as early as possible and be mindful of certain restrictions.
“No handbags, no backpacks, no laptops, no cameras. It's going to be very, very strict,” said Sala.
The concert is almost sold out but there are still are tickets available in the upper sections.
