Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - The city of Syracuse received a rare guest on Tuesday when "Dancing with the Stars" champion JR Martinez stopped in town.

The Iraq War veteran was the keynote speaker at the Annual Syracuse Insurance Day.

Since being seriously injured while serving in the US Army, Martinez has starred in the soap opera “All My Children,” become a motivational speaker, and won the Dancing with the Stars’ championship in its 13th season.

During his visit to the Salt City, NewsChannel 9 had an opportunity to ask Martinez who he thought this season’s winner might be.

"It's exciting. I mean it's really difficult to be able to pick a winner so early in the competition because there are so many good contestants. I'm very loyal so of course I'm pulling for Apollo and Karina since she was my partner. However, I really like Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough,” he said.

“Dancing with the Stars” airs on NewsChannel 9. Tonight’s ballroom performance will begin at 8:00.
