DeWitt (WSYR-TV) – DeWitt Police have arrested a woman who they believe was responsible for a series of robbery scams in the city and the suburbs.

45-year-old Dena Phoenix of Syracuse has been charged with petit larceny.

The current charge stems from an incident in which police say Phoenix flagged down a passing motorist saying she needed help. According to police, the woman then made the Le Moyne student take her to an ATM to withdraw money and give it to her.

Police arrested Phoenix at her residence, 227 Warner Ave., Syracuse.

They say she could face additional charges pending the investigation.

Police have been looking for a suspect in a series of incidents in which a woman dressed in magenta or hot pink scrubs flagged down a driver and then demanded money from them.

Police believe the suspect may have taken money from nearly 20 other victims.
