ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Sources close to the talks say a deal is imminent on legislation to establish tighter online oversight of prescription drugs in New York to help curb the black market fueled by painkiller addictions and doctor shopping.
Two government officials say it would make New York one of the first states to establish mandatory online reporting in real time of prescriptions written by doctors and filled by pharmacists.
Most states require weekly reporting. New York's current system calls for 45-day reporting.
The program, pushed by Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, and other measures to curb abuse have been under negotiation between the Cuomo administration, Schneiderman's office and legislative leaders.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to disclose the deal ahead of an announcement expected Tuesday or Wednesday.
