Fayetteville (WSYR-TV) - Demolition began on Monday on a portion of the Fayetteville Fire House.

Much of the existing building is being torn down as part of a $6 million taxpayer-approved expansion project.  A major portion of the expansion includes a new emergency services wing. The project should be complete in about a year.

Groundbreaking held for fire department expansion

Fayetteville (WSYR-TV) - Firefighters and local leaders attended a groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion of the Fayetteville Fire Department on Monday.

The project will cost more than $6 million dollars and was approved in June 2009 despite a lawsuit against it. The fire department said the renovation is necessary because it needs more space for emergency medical services and equipment, but it's also helpful for people who live in the village.

A substantial portion of the existing fire station will be torn down in order to make room for the new emergency services wing, which should be completed within a year.
