Skaneateles (WSYR-TV) -- Authorities believe the driver of a car that crashed head on into a pickup truck Tuesday afternoon may have fallen asleep behind the wheel.

According to the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, witnesses report that 38-year-old James Rusyniak, of Weedsport, was traveling along State Street Road when he crossed the center line and into the path of an oncoming pickup truck.

Rusyniak was airlifted to University Hospital where he is currently listed in critical condition.

The driver of the pickup truck, 34-year-old Michael Doupe, of Phoenix, and his father 67-year-old Bruce Doupe were not seriously hurt and declined medical transport.

Rusyniak has been issued a ticket for driving over hazard markings.
