Michigan (CNN/WSYR-TV) -- A mother in Michigan says her dog saved her toddler from drowning.

Patricia Drauch says her 14-month-old son Stanley was walking with her in the yard on Sunday and then disappeared. She searched everywhere and said she saw him in the pool. At first, the mom thought her son was floating, then noticed he was on 7-year-old Bear's back. Bear is the family's dog.

Drauch and her 14-month-old son Stanley say Bear was keeping very still to make sure he didn't go under.

"He didn't bark. He didn't move. It was like he was afraid to move at all until I got Stanley up out of the pool and that's when he came up out of the pool with me," Drauch said. "Bear was trying to keep Stanley up so he wouldn't die."

Drauch says Stanley's lips were blue when she got him out of the water and rushed with him to the nearby fire station.

The county undersheriff says based on the toddler's vomit in the car, which happens when water is ingested then expelled, it appears Bear really was a lifesaver.
