Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – We’re learning more about the closure of a popular Armory Square restaurant. Ambrosia was apparently shut down for non-payment of sales tax, which means it has been collecting sales tax from customers – but not forwarding the money to Albany.

As it stands, Ambrosia owes a little more than $17,000 in unpaid sales tax. It has three open warrants for unpaid sales tax from February, April and June.

Ambrosia is owned by Kevin Digney. Back in 2004, Digney allegedly faked his own kidnapping. Officers said he was hiding to avoid a court appearance involving his family. He was charged with falsely reporting a kidnapping. Digney was released after pleading not guilty.

On Thursday, Dougherty's Masquerade, located at 2011 Erie Boulevard East, was ordered closed by the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance too, but re-opened later in the day after paying the state back the money it owed.
