Salina (WSYR-TV) -- Deputies say a man was driving drunk when he was critically injured in a single vehicle crash in the town of Salina Friday night.

Authorities say the crash happened at around 8:30 p.m. just south of Old Liverpool Road on the onramp to Route 81 south.

Investigators say 38-year-old Kirk Thompson lost control of his 2005 Dodge Caravan while getting on the onramp, left the roadway and collided head-on with a concrete barrier.

Thompson was taken to Upstate University hospital and is currently listed in stable condition.

A front seat passenger, 53-year-old Robert Bourguignoni was also transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

Thompson was issued a ticket for DWI.

The accident remains under investigation.
