UTICA, N.Y. (AP/WSYR-TV) - A 55-year-old has been charged with assaulting a police officer after authorities say he slammed the officer's head against a table while being escorted out of a Utica bar.

Police in Utica tell the Observer-Dispatch that the officer was called to the UNA Bar early Monday for a report of an intoxicated man who refused to leave the tavern.

Authorities say while being escorted out of the bar, the man fought with Officer Vincent Parrotta and slammed his head into a table near the entrance.

Parrotta was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center for treatment of a head injury.

The charged Zuhdja Cejvanovic of South Street with assault on an officer, a felony.
