SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV) - According to the EPA, e-waste is the fastest-growing segment of the world’s garbage. Saturday, people in Central New York had the opportunity to dispose of their e-waste for free.

CXtec held a public waste collection at its LIFECYCLExpress recycling center on Brighton Avenue in Syracuse.

Hundreds of cars lined up with everything from computers, calculators, keyboards and fax machines, to speakers, TV’s, printers, video cameras and routers.

CXtec recycles e-waste for businesses and said it wanted to expand its services to the community.

"It's clearly a problem. We know that we can't just throw our computers, our monitors, our TV's in the dumpster because of the hazardous materials that are contained within it and it's just not good for the environment," said CXtec Marketing Associate Kelly Knab.

CXtec plans to hold another free e-waste recycling event in the fall.
