East Syracuse officer resigns after investigation
East Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- An East Syracuse Police Sergeant has resigned after an investigation by the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office.
Mayor Dan Liedka confirms that he was notified of an allegation against Sergeant Peter Vasiloff over the summer. The mayor told Newschannel 9 that he felt it would not be in the best interest of the village to ignore the matter. He requested that the village police chief pursue an investigation.
Chief Don Morris did not comment on the allegation, but told NewsChannel 9, "The East Syracuse Police Department -- A New York State accredited police agency -- has policies and procedures in place for personnel matters." He says in some cases the DA's Office does get involved.
According to Chief Morris and Mayor Liedka, Vasiloff resigned from the department on October 19 due to personal reasons. An investigator from the District Attorney's office was present during the resignation.
The DA’s office does not anticipate criminal charges against Vasiloff.
