Elderly man killed in Pulaski high-rise fire

PULASKI, NY (WSYR-TV) - The Oswego County Sheriff's Office reports that 88-year old Carl Tanner died Sunday, following a fire at the Springbrook Apartments.

Investigators say the fire started in Tanner's apartment around 7:00 Sunday morning, as he was cooking breakfast. He was rushed to Oswego Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The exact cause of his death is under investigation.

Other residents from the senior-living apartment building were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The Red Cross reports that 120 residents were evacuated and taken to the Pulaski Village Hall across the street. They have since been able to return to their apartments.

Fire damage was contained to the apartment where it started.

The cause of the fire is still be investigated.
