Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Former Governor Eliot Spitzer is making headlines again. You can now call him Professor Spitzer -- he's just started teaching a political science class at a New York City college.
And Tuesday, the New York Post reported on its front page that Spitzer may have aspirations for another title -- a comeback politician.
Voters have mixed reactions, and Gov. Paterson didn’t say much when asked about it.
“Like anyone else who has acknowledged wrongdoing, there's a sort of penance period and then it's between the former governor and the public after that,” says Paterson.
“I would rather give Spitzer another chance than [Paterson]; he keeps raising taxes making the rich richer and the poor poorer,” says Joyce Wilkes of Syracuse.
“I think Eliot is a disgrace to politics, left or right, and shouldn't be allowed back into politics again,” says Sal DiCiacceio of Rochester.
Since that article from the Post, Spitzer has denied the rumors of having political aspirations. But he is teaching that course titled "Law and Public Policy" at the City College of New York. For that, he'll get paid $4,500 for the fall semester.
The class Spitzer is now teaching will meet for 15 weeks -- and since he resigned as governor, Spitzer has also been working at his father's real estate firm.
