Cazenovia (WSYR-TV) – A meeting held Monday night gave the Cazenovia community a taste of what it might be like if the Empire Brewery moves forward with a new project in their village, but not everyone’s on board.

The brewery wants to use land just south of Cazenovia Lake to open up a new facility.

Supporters call it a “win-win” situation, saying it’ll attract jobs and tourists to the area. Others argue it’ll hurt the historic community by bringing noise, traffic and an eye sore to their landscape. That means a heated debate is brewing.

“Our concern as neighbors is that we’re going to be very up close and personal within a few hundred feet of the business end of a brewery, industrial brewing operation and I ask each of you if you would like to live next to a loading dock with the constant beep, beep, beep of trucks bakcing up, said Jody Reynolds who opposes the plan.

“It is not my goal at all to upset the harmony that is of Cazenovia. I live here. I love it. I always thought this was going to be a great project,” explained Empire Brewery Owner David Katleski.

Monday’s meeting was only for planning purposes. There’s no word on when the project could get final approval.
