Syracuse, New York (WSYR-TV) - A statue of SU football legend Ernie Davis has returned to the Syracuse University Quad.

The statue was removed several months ago after inaccuracies were found on the statue.  The inaccuracies included the Nike logo and a modern helmet.  The type of helmet Davis was holding in the statue did not exist when he played football.

The helmet has down been changed, and the Nike "swooshes" have been removed from his shoes.

“We appreciate Bruno’s hard work in sculpting this beautiful statue and working with us to make the necessary adjustments,” said Director of Athletics Dr. Daryl Gross. “We are so pleased that the statue is now back in place. It will serve as a lasting tribute to a great man who has meant so much to our University and to the sport of football.”

The statue was built by sculptor Bruno Luchessi.
