Detroit (WSYR-TV) – The former mayor of America’s largest bankrupt city is heading to prison.
Kwame Kilpatrick was convicted in March on nearly two dozen Federal charges – including racketeering, extortion, and filing false tax returns. CNN reported that Kilpatrick apologized
to the court before being sentenced to 28 years in prison on Thursday.
A judge acknowledged that Kilpatrick seemed remorseful but noted that a long sentence was necessary to “insulate the public” from his behavior.
Former Syracuse University and Detroit Pistons basketball legend Dave Bing is the Motor City’s current mayor.
