DeRuyter (WSYR-TV) - A Madison County farmer vows to press on, after a barn fire that killed his entire herd. Loren Darrow, of DeRuyter, says he is thankful for the outpouring of support from fellow farmers who've come to his aid.

The barn, owned by another member of Darrow's family, was located at near the intersection of Old Route 13 and Route 13. It caught fire on Friday, December 10. The family says 70 head of cattle were killed inside, along with some pigs, sheep and horses. Two tractors were also damaged.

By nature, farmers are an optimistic breed--hard working, and always trying to look at the positive.  It's with this in mind we introduce you to Loren Darrow..who is keeping his head held high, in such difficult times.

"We're coming up through the ashes already, as we speak. It's only been a handful of days and I think we're going to be just fine," said Darrow.

Darrow and his wife were in Syracuse enjoying a cup of coffee and a bite to eat when he got the call informing him of the fire.

True to the agriculture community, friends, neighbors, and fellow farmers are coming Darrow's aid, even on a bitterly cold snowy day. They're coming to work, to help restore what was lost.

"I've met so many people I've never met before in my life. Everybody is here to help," Darrow said. "I'm very thankful and I'm very blessed."

The family has also set up an account for donations at Citizen's Bank. Checks must be made out to "Donations for Ti-Creek Jerseys," and can be sent to:

Citizen's Bank
PO Box 236
DeRuyter NY 13052

Loren says he plans to rebuild, restock and continue doing what he does.
