Oneida County (WSYR-TV) -- A 37-year-old man from Rome died in a crash on the New York State Thruway Wednesday afternoon.
State Police say Anthony J. Garro died when his car left the roadway and struck the rear of a parked tractor trailer.
Witnesses told police that Garro’s vehicle was traveling westbound on the Thruway, in the town of Verona, when it drifted to the right and onto the shoulder of the highway. That’s when Garro’s vehicle continued into a parking area, where it then struck the parked tractor trailer.
The driver of the tractor trailer, 61-year-old James W. Saxton, of Alabama was not hurt in the crash.
Garro was extricated from his vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation into what caused the crash is ongoing.
