(CNN/WSYR-TV) -- While much of the news coming out of Boston has focused on Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, the FBI is still investigating his older brother, and suspected ringleader, 26-year-old Tamerlan Tsarnaev.
Federal authorities have been talking to his widow, 24-year-old Katherine Russell, who reportedly learned of her husband’s alleged involvement in the plot, when she saw photos of him on the news. Agents were spotted visiting her parents’ home in Rhode Island, where she has been holed up since last week.
Katherine, once described as an all-American girl, married Tamerlan about three years ago, eventually giving birth to a daughter. Her friends describe him as controlling, forcing Katie to drop out of college and convert to Islam. Her attorney says she was not aware of his ties to terrorism and this turn of events has been devastating.
“We are doing our best to try to deal with a very difficult situation. This family is going through a lot, so that’s the best I can do right now,” said the family’s attorney Amato DeLuca.
The Russell family did release a statement on Friday, saying, “In the after math of The Patriot’s Day horror, we know that we never really knew Tamerlan Tsarnaev.”
