Federal official: David Renz case led to firings, dismissals at Syracuse probation office
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – The Federal probation office in Syracuse has undergone some shake-ups after a man facing child pornography charges allegedly murdered a Liverpool school district librarian and raped a child in the town of Clay in March.
According to a letter from a Federal official to the office of Congressman Dan Maffei, some probation office personnel have been demoted or fired, while others underwent retraining.
The probation office came under fire after reports surfaced that an electronic monitoring bracelet warn by David Renz as part of his pre-trial agreement while facing child pornography charges had sent out alerts indicating that he was manipulating it.
Renz allegedly disabled the bracelet nearly 50 times without a response from the probation office.
The night Lori Bresnahan was stabbed to death and a 10-year-old child raped, Renz allegedly neutralized the ankle bracelet.
He is the only suspect in the case.
