Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – A Cicero man suspected in a brutal murder and rape in Clay appeared in court on Friday evening with a broken nose after being assaulted by inmates at the Justice Center jail, Federal prosecutors say.

Following the attack, federal prosecutors say 29-year-old David Renz of Cicero was placed in protective custody at the Justice Center.

Renz’s bail was revoked after authorities say he violated the terms of his pre-trial agreement.

He had been arrested in 2012 on child pornography charges.

Authorities say he removed his electronic monitoring bracelet at around 7 p.m.

Nearly two hours later, Lori Bresnahan was allegedly kidnapped and then stabbed to death.

Renz is charged with rape, kidnapping, murder in the first degree, and murder in the second degree.

Bresnahan and a 10-year-old child were in the car. The child escaped her attacker and was picked up by a passerby, according to State Police.
